Does anyone know how many of the 400 at Jackson State are students? Also, do you think classes will really start on Thursday or will they push them back further?

the new date is sept 7, but I would think that date a bit early

The CEO of Entergy was saying today that it would take a month to restore power to all of NO. I'm afraid that Sept. 7 is a bit early as well.

I doubt that densely populated areas like the Garden District and Tulane and Loyola will be anywhere near the latter half of the list to be worked on, though. Still, you're probably right, and we are just waiting to make contact before we go get some of them.

Where'd you guys get the info about the new date school is supposed to begin?

Info here

Should I even bother applying to Tulane now? I mean... Once officials go and inspect it, I'm sure alot of it will be structurally unstable and need to be rebuilt. NOAA said wooden structures would all be destroyed and I saw on CNN this afternoon that most of the city is under 5 feet of water... That can't possibly be good.

Well Adan, that would be your choice. But, you might want to wait since apps are not due for quite a while and see what the reality is as the picture becomes more clear in the next few weeks.

AdanBrac - I heard the same reports on CNN. Then I switched over to Fox News where a correspondent was reporting live from the French Quarter --- no water in sight. As for wooden structures, I don't believe Tulane has any. Where you apply is entirely your business of course. But I hope your decision to apply (or not) isn't dictated by TV reports.

Still at the top of my list!

We are now back in Ca with D. After getting D unloaded headed back to our hotel and started calling hotels in Houston. Left early 4 am and headed to Houston. Took 14 hours. We were able to switch our flights to Houston and get D a ticket home. I am glad we are home.

Sounds exhausting, mom60. Glad you are all safely together.

ctymom, I think you are right about certain parts of town getting power first. I also think that since Tulane is the largest employer in NO, priority wil be given to gettting all things Tulane up and running. These people not only need shelter, but they need to get back to work so they can rebuild their lives.

Yes, along... When we were in our evacuation hotel in Baton Rouge, the woman next door spoke much more of her worries re having a job to return to than of worries re a home to go to. I know both were on her mind, but returning to a livelihood is critical.
