I am hoping to get an undergrad certificate from the Kellogg Certificate Program and major in industrial engineering/econ at Northwestern University. The programs have enough overlap to make this doable within four years. I have been wondering how that would compare with other target schools for a career in I-Banking and hedge funds.

Are you double majoring and doing CPU just because you want to break into banking? Or are you actually genuinely interested in getting 2 degrees and completing the program? I’ll tell you right now that all of that is really unnecessary, if you just want to get into IBD. I’d focus more on networking and improving your resume, instead of spending a ton of time studying. Econ 381-1 and 381-2 (pre-req.'s for CPU) are not fun courses. And they won’t be all that useful to you in IBD, if at all.

Just my 2 cents =]

I’m genuinely interested in all of them. I was asking more about the Kellogg Certificate, but I thought giving the other programs I was going to study would allow you guys to have more information for your responses.

Quite honestly, a number of the people I know who are going into IBD this summer aren’t a part of CPU. The program might become a little more well-known later on and more students from there will break into IBD, but right now, it’s not much of an advantage. Most of the people in NYC have no idea about CPU. Only the Chicago offices do I suspect.
