Kelly Direct Admit C/O 2023

My son is a Kelley Direct Admit. How many are attending the first Direct Admit Day session (February 16th)?

My son is also, and will be attending on the 16th as well!

Great! We arrive tomorrow evening. We’re excited!

We are attending too!

Congrats on being a DA! Welcome to the family!! Join the multiple IU FB pages if you want to connect and get lots of input and great advice on a variety of topics. While you are in town or when you can, be sure to evaluate the cost of housing and the supply vs demand pressure for next year and the year beyond.Freshman have to live on campus in University housing. There is a housing shortage crisis going on due to the mold outbreak this year in multiple freshman dorms, that has led to several being taken off line for next year. Prices in town and inventory reflect it. Landlords know what is going on on campus. I have heard there are already waitlists at popular apartment complexes for the 2020-21 school year because people are assessing the situation and realizing next year’s housing shortage may spill over to the following year if the planned renovations timeline doesn’t work or their is an issue with funding. IU bumped all returning students with signed on campus housing contracts for next year out just a few weeks ago. This was done in an effort to assure they will have enough housing for their planned 8000 incoming freshman. Housing contracts start getting signed by Sept/October for best selection and most favorable pricing. The U has promised to make it up to all the students they just bumped out of their assignments by offering them a 10% discount for 20/21 contracts and also first in line registration priority ahead of all other returning students wishing to live on campus. That could change if all the renovations don’t go as smoothly as planned. Just be aware of housing pressures as the U works out their inventory and budget considerations if yours in not unlimited.

Is there a dress code for tomorrow? I’d think we should dress comfortably in order to tour the campus but a friend saidi they want you to dress up? Will I stick out if I wear tennis shoes?

You don’t have to dress up. Tennis shoes are fine.

@CEDEotE

I am going to the DA day on the 23rd and am wondering what to wear and expect. How was your experience? @CEDEotE

I saw a variety of different attire. For the Friday night reception you are standing and mingling for most of the night. Business casual was the norm, but I also saw lesser. Saturday morning you are sitting in an auditorium listening to speakers until around 12:30. After that, tours were available for campus, Hodge Hall, the Career Services Center, and a residence hall. We THOROUGHLY enjoyed our weekend!

Can you please let us know --what do the parents do during the session --was told most of the sessions were for the students only. Thank you.

Actually there’s a separate breakout session for the students, while the parents continue to listen to speakers on stage. I can’t remember exactly when the students broke away, but we (parents) listened to the faculty chair as well as a panel that included parents of two current Kelley students.
