Kennel recommendation

We are considering surprising D by bringing our dog for Parent’s Weekend. We will be staying at the Yellow Hammer Inn which doesn’t allow pets. Does anyone have a suggestion for a kennel either near the hotel or near the campus? FYI, we have a 60 lb bulldog.

Thanks in advance!

Would love to hear what you find out! Also–is it OK to walk a dog around the UA campus as long as it’s on a leash? TIA!

Plenty of people walk their dogs around campus, especially around the Quad area. I personally have petted many an adorable puppy on the Quad, always brightens my day :)

Casino was very helpful and asked on another board. He PM’d me with their consensus of May Vet in Northport. Thank you, Casino. We will check that out.

MesquiteGirl, you said that plenty of people walk their dogs around the quad. So during a crazy Gameday, that would be ok?

I’ve seen people there on gamedays with their dogs dressed up. Of course, you are the only one who knows whether your dog might be overwhelmed by a crowd and might be prone to bite. Be sure to bring some water and dish…it gets hot!

Definitely! We’ve had several dogs at tailgates before. Like bamagirls said, there are plenty of small to medium size dogs wearing little Alabama outfits, and then larger dogs like labs and danes. All shapes and sizes, as long as they stay on a leash and you don’t let them wander anywhere they shouldn’t go. No one wants to suddenly find their burger has been swiped by a canine thief! Best bring a dish for water and a chew toy or two as well.

Yeah, if I brought any of my chocolate labs nothing would be safe…even the game ball.:)

LOL! My little lab/terrier mix would be in seventh heaven. She loves people and other dogs, the more the merrier. If only I could convince la famille to let me bring her down when we take DS back to UA in August. Sigh!!

We’ve walked our dogs on campus many times, but only on quiet weekends. My doxie would flip out if he were on the Quad on gameday…too much, too much. He gets very territorial and if we sat down, he’d bark at anyone who came near us. :(

However, my little yorkie/chihuahua would be fine and look so cute dressed up in Bama spirit doggie wear.

I have never used a kennel, so I don’t know what’s available in Ttown. I do know that many vet clinics do “kennel” animals as well. I have heard good things about May Vet as well.

I think there’s another May Vet Clinic on Greensboro in Ttown, but I don’t know if it has boarding. anyway…if you’re using a GPS, be sure to put May Vet Hospital NORTH in the GPS so you’ll be directed to the right one.

And, you may not realize it, but Alabama has a gazillion vet clinics. Don’t know what it is about this state, but there are vet clinics, banks, and pharmacies everywhere. You can hardly go a block without seeing another.

My labs love people, balls, and frisbees way TOO much…they’d make pests of themselves very quickly as they think they were born for two things…fetching and tummy rubs.

That’s simply adorable. As I’m separated from my dogs for most of the year, I cannot help but let out a big “aaawwwww” whenever I see cute dogs on campus. Tugs at my heartstrings. And now this thread is making me miss my dogs.
