The only thing that would really mess up your grant is a large increase in family income once you are in college (or assets gained from an inheritance, settlement, or lottery etc). If that is not a possibility then you should be able to enroll at the school you like the best without worry. Also, remember how lucky you are to be paying basically nothing to attend a great school.

I think you’re safe either way.

You are safe either way. Both schools are great choices. Same size, both rural, both in rather northern climates, both have great programs across the board. Waterville sucks, but it’s not like you’re Gambier adds more to Kenyon than the village atmosphere. Good luck with the choice.

Kenyon just raised over 250 million, much of which will go to increase the endowment. The school’s facilities and infrastructure are generally excellent and certainly on par with Vassar. Kenyon is doing fine economically at this point and is actually really on a pretty dramatic roll in most respects. Its popularity is high and its student body seems more contented and well grounded than what I’ve seen at other LACs. There is a positive and, as someone else here said, magical quality to the place that is hard to compete with. Vassar’s overall feel tends to be more dour and cynical in my view. The larger endowment doesn’t change that.
