college choose

Got accepted in NYU and Vassar, NYU gave 14k in schollarship, Vassar gave 25K. Please help to choose.

Thank you

My vote is Vassar.

Seriously, It's not all about the money, is it? Usually we get a little more information then that when we're asked to give our serious, objective, parents opinions. Or we could just go with the money if that's your criteria - Vassar.

no it is not all about the money, however it means a lot too. My bigger concern is how Vassar is comparable with NYU. I know that NYU is known by everybody. Also would like to know how grad schools concider Vassar and NYU

Unless you really want to be in NYC, my vote is for Vassar. Grad schools think highly of both.

If i decide to go to Vassar and do not like it, what are my chances to transfer in NYU? Does anybody know if NYU offers scholarships to transfered students?

Oppostie ends of the universe in terms of culture. Have you visited both?

as said, extremely different schools and it would depend on what you're looking for and your personality.

(if it were me, i'd pick vassar in a heartbeat)

I would not enroll anywhere with the attitude that you must have a transfer application in hand. If things really don't "work out" at Vassar, you may want to reevaulate the entire process, not just look NYU. I mean, if NYU rocks your world that much, that sort of answers your own question. :/

What are you looking for? A campus with trees, and small classes, and close relationships with professors? If so, then Vassar. If you want an urban, not-really-a campus feel, then NYU. Personally, for me, it would be Vassar. Not just the money, but the close community.

But on the other hand, if you would like to leave campus (Poughkeepsie did not impress me, to say the least), and want excitement, NYU is where it's at. Both are great schools (I liked Vassar and almost applied there, so I have been there and do know a bit about it), and the finances make it cheaper at NYU, but not to a ridiculous degree (assuming, of course, that you can afford NYU w/ scholarship). If you are in one of the "honors" or "scholars" programs at NYU, that could help to make a big school seem smaller. Plus, I know that they sold the ability to intern in NYC in Vassar, but it really isn't that convenient, especially compared to NYU. Beyond that, and it's location, I don't have anything bad to say about Vassar and I think that either choice is fine.

Check the costs, not just the scholarship amounts. When my daughter was looking a couple of years ago, NYU was several thousand dollars higher than other schools in tuition-room-&-board, and then there are the limitless opportunities to spend money in NYC to take into account. (You can get better pizza there than at Vassar, you can get it at 3:00 am if you want, but it costs three times as much.) I don't know about Vassar's costs, but there could be a lot more than $11,000/year difference between the two schools.

EDIT: Yes, there's a $3,000 difference in tuition and fees.
