<p>Well I read somewhere that there are only 50 winners. I am not 100% sure this is correct, but it makes sense because the scholarship is so large ($20,000 total). I did try to google and search for a list of final winners from last year, but could not find anything. So if the 50 total is true, the odds of winning this one are pretty astronomical, but would be great if it happens!</p>

<p>They say they will notify semi-finalists in mid-March. So about a month to go for any word on this one…</p>
<p>Last year semifinalists were notified on March 1st.</p>
<p>Wow - looks like news will be coming soon. I am having more fun and (stress) following these then my son is! I am the one keeping him posted lol. Well I hope that lots of cc’rs are semis for this as they were for Sam Walton. Lots of smart, talented seniors are on here…</p>

<p>@mangofan - Yes. The money can only be used in a public college in your home state, with few exceptions.</p>

<p>I actually think it will be March 2nd or 3rd. I am getting this from previous year’s posts and because the original info said if you were a semi finalist that the paperwork you need to send in would be due by March 18th. So they would have to let everyone know soon so that they have time to get stuff in by March 18. Remember, about 100,000 seniors a year apply for this so try not to get too set on winning this. If it happens it happens and that would be great, but it really is a long shot. Though on the bright side 75 or so seniors will get this. You may be the one of them! Last night for dinner my son got a fortune cookie with this message " A letter of great importance may reach you any day now". Maybe it means news of this or any of the other scholarships he has applied for! I can only hope :)</p>
