Oh my god, everyone in Minnesota thinks I'm absolutely crazy for wanting to go to school in Texas. People in the north just can't understand it. But one of the things I really wanted in my school was to have it be in a location really really different than where I live now, and thankfully, Houston isn't anything like suburban Minnesota. And then the other thing I don't think people ever think about is that Houston is a metropolitan area. I'd never been to the south when I went to visit Rice in October, and I was DISAPPOINTED in how non-stereotypical Houston was. I wanted to see the cowboy boots and the giant belt buckles, and frankly, they really weren't there. And the kids at Rice come from all over the country, so it's probably even less "Texan" than Houston. I think Minnesota just has some "Texas phobia." It's really unfortunate.

haha, i just didn't think i wanted to go to houston
i thought it would be too big of city

but now i wish i would've looked into it

the metropolitan part doesn't surprise me though

i want the same thing out of college, and i will definitely get it.
probably in the east though

Rice is amazing.
You should have applied :[

Well, you can still transfer if you want. I missed that chance as I didn't know that Rice is an excellent school with nice weather and beautiful campus...unlike the top schools at the east coast. Now I can only apply to Rice for grad school. T_T

you should take a gap year and then reapply

Texas Phobia isn't just in Minnesota. Being from Texas, whenever I meet people from out of state, they immediately think I own some big ranch, wear cowboy stuff, and ride a horse to school...Houston area is nothing like that. But hey, that's what I thought it would be when I moved here in third grade : ). My old town was more hick than houston now that I think about it...

haha, i don't know about taking a gap year or transferring!
we will see what schools i get into!

They accept late applications until the end of this month, I called them yesterday.

I have a friend who turned in his application in MID TO LATE FEBRUARY AND WAS ACCEPTED. He made up some BS about technical issues or a hurricane or something. It was BS but he got in anyway.

Just fyi. How you use this information is up to you.

Listen to Beef. If you feel that terrible about missing out on Rice, take a chance and try submitting the application online. I would be willing to bet that Rice might still accept it.

yeah send ur app in Rice wants its acceptance rate to be as low as possible lol so they want you to send it!
