Wow I thought it sounded legit. >_> Congrats…just wow…I can’t believe I had a spelling error…Mindblown. Anyhow, don’t one of those stores outside of UF have their own wifi thing that you can connect to? I thought McDonald’s and Home Depot have their own free public Wifi.

Lol well you even had me kind of going when your profile said you were 27, I thought it could’ve been a real staff member. And yeah, pretty much anywhere has free wifi: Starbucks, McDonald’s, probably even Wal-Mart by now. I guess UF doesn’t really care what you’re downloading, as long as they won’t get in trouble for it.

They said part of the scan will see whatever new files are on your computer (from the last scan), so beware.

@Strikeb4ck My thoughts are that you could keep a torrent program on a thumb/sky drive, go on to a different network, Starbucks for example, then use the program, download whatever you want, delete the program, and go back to UF. You could just wait until you have enough of a need for new stuff to make it worth doing that.
If they ask where I got my Ramones discography that suddenly appeared on my computer, a friend has the entire CD set

Got back from Preview today. Just to clear things up, they only scan Windows and not Mac OS or any other OSs. Also, the lady told us that you can keep your “bad” files on an external hard drive and that will be fine. Youtube converters are illegal - that’s what she said.

She showed us a list of software/applications that are recommended to uninstall and I think I saw some things that come standard with new Windows laptops/PCs…I don’t know where that list is though. Somewhere on the UF site.

[Here is the link](http://www.dhnet.ufl.edu/services/recommendations/#p2p)

I went to preview the other day and they said that you couldn’t have any ill-gotten music on your computer. Is that just an idle threat since I can’t see how they would be able to distinguish a mp3 file that is ill-gotten from one that is just something that you could’ve made yourself.

I’ve heard someone say they’ve gotten up to 8 megabytes/second… :)

You cant use torrents or any stuff like that. If you do they’ll send you an email warning you. I think you get a few warnings before they cut you off for some time limit.

As for already downloaded materials like music/movies it doesn’t matter. You could download 1000 movies via torrents before getting on the UF network and you’ll be good. There’s no way of telling

they ban you on first offense for 30 minutes. second offense might be a week or two day, i don’t remember. third strike (if i recall) is indefinite ban, pending a meeting with housing staff.

also, they cant and wont attempt to determine if any media is ‘ill-gotten’.
