Kids Cannot Be Bent Into Shape Like Pipecleaners

This column in our local paper seemed like it would resonate with CC parents. Seems like a good parallel to WhitneyM's post on "Forcing a Fit?"

Very funny. Loved the references to gerbils. Great imagery.

Anyone else guess that the writer's boys weren't real testosterone-soaked teens with beard stubble?

Light up when they come in the room? She has NO idea what's in store for her, LOL.

Time out! I have to pat myself on the back for watching "Pimp my Ride" with Ss! Woo hoo!

Perfection!

Our job is to light up when they walk into the room.

Oh dear heavens, I have been trying to bring this kind of joy back into our lives with respect to S#2, who is in the middle of the uncommunicative, secretive, unhygienic 15-year-old male phase right now. I was just thinking the other day how he thinks all I do is give him orders anymore.

I shall try lighting up whenever he walks into the room... and try not to feel too hurt if he makes fun of me for it.

Reminds me of last night's Wife Swap where the Harvard grad couple was grooming their offspring to be the next generation of H grads--or else.

And it did for me.

When my son entered into the 15 year-old metaphoric stage that Mootmom describes my cousin recommended a daily reading of the daily comic strip Zits. It has become my morning meditation and I highly recommend it to anyone who doesn't already know it....

oops, meant metamorphhic, not metaphoric.....maybe both apply. They do evolve, but not without going through some literal and metaphoric transformations....

mmah, I agree! Zits is awesome. I mail it to my 17 year old son at his school regularly, and we both laugh....because it hits so close to home!
