Kilachand Essay Tips

Hello all

I’ve been doing some research but I can’t find any material on the Kilachand essay, or any Kilachand students. I was hoping to understand whether the prompt is asking for a formal essay, like an academic paper, or a personal essay that could be written in first person.

If anyone has any insight on this or knows any current Kilachand students, I would very much appreciate it if you could connect me to them!

Kilachand is so new that I’m not sure–hopefully some students see this and say something–but otherwise honestly I think it’s open-ended and up to you. I’ve helped two students with the essays, and my gut instinct, looking at the prompts, would be to go quasi-academic with a touch of the personal–they want to see your intellectual vitality. Others may disagree and recommend one go totally personal, but I think that’s tricky depending on the prompt. (remind me which ones were the Kilachand prompts? I helped with the Trustees prompts as well and they are totally mixed up in my head now–was Kilachand the one that had literature vs. technology as an option?)

Also have you looked at this? http://www.bu.edu/khc/accepted/kilachand-ambassadors/ You can contact any of the student ambassadors you want to ask questions.

@proudterrier : nope. The kilachand one is power vs powerlessness OR education is…

I emailed an Ambassador about this, thanks for the link  in the meanwhile I’ll take your advice and make it mostly academic with a bit of personal.

Aha! Yeah, I would tend toward an academic answer, at least for the power vs. powerlessness one. Education is could go personal or academic, depending on what you think education is
