kind of dumb math question

BB math test, problem 15 is

The acme plumbing company will send a team of 3 plumbers to work on a certain job. The company has 4 experienced plumbers and 4 trainees. If a team consists of 1 experienced plumber and 2 trainees, how many diffeernt such teams are possible.

Obviously, there are 4 diff ways to have the experienced plumber, but for the inexp wouldnt it be

1st plumber: 4 choices 2nd plumber: 3 choices, and if you multiply its 12?

thats not the way apparently, why so?

First find the number of combinations of two junior plumbers are possible, which is equal to 321. Then multiply that by the number of senior plumbers.

yea, i get the multiplying the two probabilities. Why is the junior plumber part of the problem 321
instead of

4*3?
