Kitchen Aid Mixer

Somehow, even though I bake a fair bit, I have gone through nearly 40 years of marriage without a Kitchen Aid Mixer. LOL.

I’m thinking of taking my Costco rebate $$$ later this month and buying one. I could buy one right at Costco - they go on sale a few times a year. BUT, part of the fun of getting one is getting a fun color - and Costco I believe only carries red (I past my red stage a few years ago) or silver (fine, but blah). So I can certainly take my rebate check and purchase one elsewhere.

Question is, is there another spot where you have found to offer sales on them? It kills me to pay full price for an item - like any item! Any suggestions on other places to look? In store might be ok depending on where it is, online is desirable.

Bed Bath and Beyond with a 20% off coupon. We have done this a number of times for shower or wedding gifts. Big color selection.

How large do you want. target has some fun colors, but they not the huge ones.

Ahh BBB! One of ours closed I’ll have to see if the other 2 are open. I didn’t know there were various sizes. Educate me in the sizes. I would not want something small but maybe don’t need the biggest. I’d want to be able to do bread dough or a double batch of cookies for sure.

5 or 6 quart I think???

I think mine is 5 qt and it’s plenty big for what I use it for (not bread). But mine is about 35 years old!

I don’t remember the actual sizes, but I’m pretty sure the BBB ones are the smaller line vs “pro” line. However, my SIL has the mint color from BBB and she is an avid cook. She bakes bread every week and loves her mixer.

I have the Costco silver/gray… in the 10 years I’ve owned it I made bread once.:rofl::rofl:

Edit: Now that I give it some thought it’s more like 15+ years I’ve owned it. How time flies.

5 quart is plenty! You can buy decals for your KA mixer…

or you can custom paint one.

BBB carries the larger model as well. My daughter got it as a wedding gift from there.

Here you go!

That blue velvet color!

I could kick myself. A decade or so ago (probably longer now?) my Aunt died and I had her old stand mixer for a minute. I can’t even remember if it was a Kitchen Aid. But I didn’t appreciate it at the time and sold it in a garage sale. Whoever walked away with that probably was grinning from ear to ear!

This is one of those things which are basically price fixed so you need to go with your best coupon deal - try Kohls (with one of their coupons which can go up to 30%) or Macys (looks like it is on sale - again if you have a macys card you can use a coupon)

I got mine on sale 20+ years ago at Macy’s. It’s a work horse.

Kohls says you can’t use promotions on this brand. I checked even though I haven’t been in a Kohl’s for a few years.

I want the yellow one! But my Kitchen Aid Hand Mixer still works fine, and it’s still $50 which is what I got it for 10, 15 years ago? Some day…

Before you decide, read about the two types - drop bowl vs tilt head. Mine is the slightly smaller tilt head model, my mom has the bigger drop bowl type. Both of us strongly prefer the type we have, so it’s a preference/habit thing not a “one is better than another” thing. I swear I can barely make cake from a mix in hers with the beater always in the way :joy:

^^^^ I second this. I have the drop bowl type and it’s fine, but I grew up with a tilt head one and like it much better. It’s not enough to make me go buy a new one, but if it got stolen or broken, I’d switch.

I have the tilt head one. I love it. It also takes up less space.

I also have the drop type, but I wish I’d bought the tilt head. Between arthritis and carpal tunnel problems, among other things, I find mine uncomfortable to use. I stopped baking for a few years, but now that I’ve started again I’m thinking of replacing mine. I’ll wait until after we move then drop hints to H about a birthday/Christmas present since it feels indulgent to replace a working appliance.

Thank you for that advice - tilt head sounds like I might prefer it

@abasket not sure I can link it, but check out the youtube video AmyLearnsToCook about KitchenAid Stand Mixer Tilt head vs. Bowl Lift comparison.
