Somehow, even though I bake a fair bit, I have gone through nearly 40 years of marriage without a Kitchen Aid Mixer. LOL.
I’m thinking of taking my Costco rebate $$$ later this month and buying one. I could buy one right at Costco - they go on sale a few times a year. BUT, part of the fun of getting one is getting a fun color - and Costco I believe only carries red (I past my red stage a few years ago) or silver (fine, but blah). So I can certainly take my rebate check and purchase one elsewhere.
Question is, is there another spot where you have found to offer sales on them? It kills me to pay full price for an item - like any item! Any suggestions on other places to look? In store might be ok depending on where it is, online is desirable.
Ahh BBB! One of ours closed I’ll have to see if the other 2 are open. I didn’t know there were various sizes. Educate me in the sizes. I would not want something small but maybe don’t need the biggest. I’d want to be able to do bread dough or a double batch of cookies for sure.
I don’t remember the actual sizes, but I’m pretty sure the BBB ones are the smaller line vs “pro” line. However, my SIL has the mint color from BBB and she is an avid cook. She bakes bread every week and loves her mixer.
I have the Costco silver/gray… in the 10 years I’ve owned it I made bread once.
Edit: Now that I give it some thought it’s more like 15+ years I’ve owned it. How time flies.
I could kick myself. A decade or so ago (probably longer now?) my Aunt died and I had her old stand mixer for a minute. I can’t even remember if it was a Kitchen Aid. But I didn’t appreciate it at the time and sold it in a garage sale. Whoever walked away with that probably was grinning from ear to ear!
This is one of those things which are basically price fixed so you need to go with your best coupon deal - try Kohls (with one of their coupons which can go up to 30%) or Macys (looks like it is on sale - again if you have a macys card you can use a coupon)
Before you decide, read about the two types - drop bowl vs tilt head. Mine is the slightly smaller tilt head model, my mom has the bigger drop bowl type. Both of us strongly prefer the type we have, so it’s a preference/habit thing not a “one is better than another” thing. I swear I can barely make cake from a mix in hers with the beater always in the way
^^^^ I second this. I have the drop bowl type and it’s fine, but I grew up with a tilt head one and like it much better. It’s not enough to make me go buy a new one, but if it got stolen or broken, I’d switch.
I also have the drop type, but I wish I’d bought the tilt head. Between arthritis and carpal tunnel problems, among other things, I find mine uncomfortable to use. I stopped baking for a few years, but now that I’ve started again I’m thinking of replacing mine. I’ll wait until after we move then drop hints to H about a birthday/Christmas present since it feels indulgent to replace a working appliance.
