In case anyone doesn’t know, the dime in the bowl calibration hack is fantastic. I can’t believe I didn’t make this adjustment for 15 years.
Wait – what??
ETA: I just googled it. Oh my! I’ll try it tomorrow.
Does anyone else have a “neck pin” that likes to shimmy out in either direction when mixing? We have an open floor plan and the pewter crab hammer I use to knock it back into place (yes, I store it with the mixer) definitely annoys the rest of the family…
Y’all inspired me to figure out how to fix it after all this time! Kitchen Aid even has a video!
I am on a business trip, so I will have to report back out on my progress next week, but I am wondering if that little screw is completely MIA. I had no idea that it was this easy.
Geez…I guess I need to give my over 30 year old kitchen aid an overhaul.
I had no idea it was a pin; here I thought it was a screw. I’m going to try the dime calibration today! I’m hosting book club Friday, so I bought some black cocoa to make a black buttercream for a Halloween cake for my friend’s b-day. I’m excited to have the beater actually mix all the powdered sugar. I had no idea I could adjust it. Also can’t wait to use my new mixer lift, so glad I put it into the kitchen re-build; my mixer is getting heavier every year.
My Kitchenaid is nearly 55 years old! Color matches backsplash kitchen tile exactly. I had no clue how much service it probably needs, as it still works great. I don’t use it very often though.
From my old research when this last came up…
The old kitchen aid mixers (mine is 40 plus years) have a different heavier grease that was used because they used all metal parts so more like a regular machine grease. Most of those will run fine with never having the grease changed. The newer KA mixers (can’t remember the year) have some plastic parts and use a lighter grease/oil which needs replenishing occassionally (but I can’t remember the number of years–still have a good length of time).
