Koch brothers influence FSU...other colleges?

UNFORTUNATELY, that information is quite close to the reality. The bigger the funds donated, the more voice the donor will have as far as where the money needs to be spent on. So yes, it will likely continue, until schools are bold enough to say, we “DO NOT WANT YOUR MONEY, IF IT COMES WITH ANY STRINGS ATTACH”.
Now show me schools that do that, and that will confirm schools that have 100% control of their platforms, without outside influences.

you mean without outside influences that do not agree w your world view…

Schools do not exist in a sterile bubble. Outside views should be welcomed in the name of intellectual diversity and academic honesty

This thread is hilarious; the OP raised two issues, first the Koch’s funding and slight ability to influence the possible hire of a faculty member and John Thrasher. Guess which issue has far more influence on FSU’s future? Which one will have far more impact on faculty hiring, and governance of the university? Yet, the name “Koch” has everyone focused on the first issue, which had been resolved in 2011, when the agreement was modified and approved by the faculty senate.

I think the issues would have been the same no matter which high-handed, billionaire’s name you wanted to substitute. Try an experiment. Replace the word, “Koch” with the words “Michael C. Bloomberg” and I think you would get the same reaction (NOTE: I have no evidence that Michael C. Bloomberg, who is a huge benefactor of Johns Hopkins, has ever tied his gift making to havinng veto power over faculty or staff.)

"(NOTE: I have no evidence that Michael C. Bloomberg, who is a huge benefactor of Johns Hopkins, has ever tied his gift making to havinng veto power over faculty or staff.)".

He may or may however with the Koch, they are funding a professorship for a specific reason, i.e. free market principles. You wouldn’t want that money to be spent hiring a Marxist.

^^…and good luck finding those stolen strawberries.

This is why this forum should be"POLITICS FREE".
Readers will soon need to have thermometers handy each time they get on here,LOL

This is not a discussion about politics, but about funding & selection of university faculty with viewpoints contrary to prevailing faculty bent.

^^ Thanks for the link.

It is interesting to see how some people think and how they fool themselves into taking other people’s money with whom they disagree.

The article states that the grant is for teaching free enterprise, but there is no hand in hiring, Well, do you think that they can hire someone who is against free enterprise and still get the money? Of course not. So, no direct hand in hiring is required to get the same results.
