I'm attending WashU this fall as a freshman and am considering being a broadcaster for the school's radio station, KWUR. Does anybody on campus (or in St. Louis) really listen to the station? What kinds of programs do people broadcast, like music, sports, talk shows, etc? Are any broadcasters particularly well known on campus for their work with the radio station?

I’m sure someone listens to it. Maybe. At some point in the year. On accident.

Haha, I’m probably one of the very few people who is in kwur who actually visits cc.

I’ll be a soph in the fall - i did the kwur pre-orientation which means i had a show since the very first days of school. i did a show in the spring with a friend and i’m also in stl for the summer so i’m doing a summer show now.

here’s the real deal - kwur is a gem for the people who are in it, and nothing to people who aren’t. who listens to your show? your friends, other kwur kids, people who would be kwur people, people who used to be kwur people? what is a “kwur people”? someone who is a tad off kilter, someone who likes obscure music, wears horn-rimmed glasses and v-necks or has a nose hoop and long hair or really really short hair. someone who questions the status quo at washu and generally rejects it. of course, that’s just the stereotype. i don’t have a nose hoop. my hair is shoulder length.

kwur is really about you, and it’s what you make of it. there are ambitious people who actually advertise heavily for their shows, and get a good amount of listeners. there are people like me, who pretty much play music for themselves and their friends. i have a pal who is doing a sports/rap show, i do eclectica. some people do talk radio, there is a show called theatre of the air. you can check out the schedule and listen online at kwur.com.

people from kwur are more likely to be famous because of their djing skills at parties around campus rather than through their shows. it’s really mostly about the music. hence why we generally call ourselves “deej” rather than broadcasters. kwur is great house parties with great music, kwur is weird, kwur is big butts (as last year’s advertising campaign claimed). hope this helped.
