We planned an outdoor, celebratory meal. Twelve people. Cooked like crazy, as usual, and worked to prepare the yard. We had everything ready to go, mosquitos vanquished, furniture cleaned, non breakable dishes secured, special lighting put up, when an hour before dinner, the skies opened up. Thunderstorms! We scrambled to move it all to the screened in back porch, not so pretty but do-able and open enough to keep everyone safe.
Dinner was fine and people enjoyed themselves even though it was not perfect. A metaphor for the new year?

We enjoyed a small gathering last night - just our immediate family + one set of grandparents. Same as last year but with the added bonus of being indoors (though, it was such a beautiful day we could have been outside).
