Can someone explain to me how the UC system works? I applied to UCB, was rejected. I come from across the country, so I really did not expect to even get in for I understand the UC system is mainly for Californian. My question, I never needed to send anything from my HS nor letters from teachers, just the app on line. The appilcation was self serve, requesting nothing like some of the applications that I had to fill out for eastern school. Even my GC said UC system is different. How did the admission even know much about me? And is it some are admitted to two schools in the UC system for the same term? It just doesnt make any sense to me. Can someone explain? Am I missing something so elementary? Thanks

Rejected at UCLA.

Accepted at BERKELEY! =)

I did not get an e-mail yet. I checked my status online today.

Rejected by UCLA, got into Cal for Fall '08.

Yes, the UC uses a significantly different application process than your regular east coast colleges. Like the Common App, the UC application covers all 8 universities in the UC system (Berkeley, LA, San Diego, Davis, Santa Cruz, Irvine, Santa Babara, and Merced), and you were supposed to check off all the UCs you wished to apply to when you submitted it. Each school has its own independent admissions (just like on the Common App), so you could potentially be accepted into all UCs simultaneously.
Partially due to the immense load of applicants, the overloaded admissions staff in the UC system opts not to read letters of recommendation. You had to enter in your classes and grades on the application, and the UCs will ask for a transcript of grades to confirm everything after they have accepted you.
Paired with your essays, the admissions officers get an adequate picture of the applicant. Hope this cleared it up for you!

Yeah, a lot of kids from my school got rejected at UCLA but accepted at Cal...I'd always thought that if anything like that happened, that it would be the other way around...anyone else feel the same way?
