Drew in NJ, is a lovely college that no one here talks about. Its very small, beautiful campus, wonderful for theater and science research, easy access to NYC. It would make a good safety. It has had some financial issues, but I believe it will be fine in the long run.
A student with the academic chops for Colorado College could get some nice merit money at the University of Denver, which is a lot closer to urban and cultural attractions than CC but still offers a lot of support services you’d find at an LAC
Carleton or St. Olaf in Northfield, MN seem like they’d fit that list well if she’s okay with cold.
Well, I’ll have to disagree with you, Doschicos. I was in Colorado Springs with 6 hours to spend two weeks ago (waiting for someone to get out of a test) and even had an event at the Broadmoor to use up 2 of those hours. Pretty boring, big box stores type of town. CC students don’t have to ‘trek to the suburbs’ - the whole town is one big suburb. Colorado Springs isn’t Portland Oregon or Amherst Mass. The town is conservative. The entertainment, the media, the government are conservative.
There is the Rodeo Hall of Fame.
From the list in #37, I’d say it isn’t a match, unless by late night dining she meant around 7 pm. Town is pretty shut down before the early news at 9 pm.
Just in case it was overlooked on the last page, Southwestern University in Georgetown, TX is great. We went on several visits there. It is a cute town itself, and then Austin is 30 mins away. If Texas is of interest!
@Collegefortwins thank you for that link btw— sorry I forgot to reply, it was very helpful!!
Thank you @AlmostThere2018 will start looking at Carleton and St. Olaf. Adding Amherst but that would be a bigger reach.
For vintage clothing in Colorado Springs (as well as records and tapes, or a “Keep Colorado Springs lame!” bumper sticker), check out a place called “Leechpit Records”. I’d link to it but am afraid it would violate terms of service.
Parent of a rising Reed sophomore here, just popping in to suggest that it’s more than just its “quirky” reputation (though it is that) and worth checking out if your D finds it of interest. My son is liberal but not that “out there” and he says he loves the community. Yes there is a very vocal contingent but not everyone buys into all of it. If she visits she’ll probably know right away if it clicks for her or not. Portland would check most of the boxes on your wish list. Happy to try to answer specific questions (with son’s help) if you have any. Good luck with the search!
P.S. I loved Kenyon too! Son didn’t feel the vibe as strongly, though, and in the end just could not wrap his mind around four years in Gambier.
