So basically, im pretty much in love with Kenyon. The campus, the intimate academics, the KAC, everything...BUT the fact that its about five mile away from my house, and my parents...

so basically, what are some colleges that are very similar to Kenyon, but are a little farther away from good old Knox County, Ohio? Obviously LAC, similar academic "prestige" (i hate that word), maybe a little stronger in the sciences than kenyon, similar selectivity, wouldnt mind a little cheaper but that doesnt matter much to me, gorgeous and friendly campus, ect....
so far ive looked into:
Swarthmore:definitely a higher reach for me
Davidson:any opinions?
Grinnell:...cornfields of Iowa???
Vassar:opinions?
Middlebury:def. higher reach

Know Kenyon very well (had a daughter graduate in 2005). Looked at lots of LAC's for my son who in the end will be attending Kenyon. The most similar to Kenyon in terms of atmosphere and academic quality that we saw was Hamilton. I would think that Macalaster would also be a school worth considering, and perhaps the Maine schools (Bates, Bowdoin and Colby) as well.

S who is going to Kenyon next year also looked at Earlham, Haverford, Bowdoin, Wooster, Wesleyan, Denison, Grinnell. None were quite like Kenyon though in terms of the feel!

Yes, I agree with MolBioAce. Perhaps your family should just shift out of state so that Kenyon will be further away from your house. :p

Jokes aside, I seriously can't think of any other LACs that have similar feel and atmosphere as Kenyon. The closest I can think of would be Sewanee - the gorgeous campus. Princeton is another one (although it will be a BIG reach).

Other than Kenyon ED, I applied to Davidson, Claremont McKenna, Bates, Colby and Connecticut College, all of which I've withdrawn after being accepted at Kenyon. :)

Definitely look into Davidson and the claremont consortium. They are great.

Grinnell--I attended Kenyon and my sister Grinnell (we are from Ohio) and she loved it. Outside of going to and from, you don't know you are in the cornfields of Iowa. Awesome facilities.

Nope. The school is liberal. It is trying hard to attract geographic diversity and is willing to dish out the money to achieve this goal. It is widely considered to be one of America's best college buys.

Whitman is pretty similar to Kenyon in terms of a rural location, student body, and academics. People I've spoken to that are interested in one are usually interested in the other (Whitman was my second choice school). I actually know a student making a choice between them!
