LACs in the West

I considered both the Claremont colleges and L&C in my search and visited Scripps and L&C in one trip. The differences were very striking.

L&C: by far the more "liberal and artsy"...(and by far more gray).

Scripps: felt much stronger academically. I received 1/2 schols from both, but have knocked Scripps off the list so far, because I couldn't get over its bubble-like feel. The kids there seemed spoiled, removed from reality, and over-the-top trendy. Of course, that was just my impression, and I'm sure being on campus a weekend didn't give me a fully accurate view of the college...which, btw, was the prettiest campus I've seen out of 8 total.

Whitman runs buses from Seattle and Portland airports during the usual times times: Breaks, etc. It is about 4 hours by car from either city. You can also catch a commuter flight from either city to Pacso, Wa., which is about 30 minutes away from Walla Walla.

BTW, I just visited Whitman with my daughters and was very impressed by everything I saw, including the cute downtown area of Walla Walla
