LACs with Education/Teaching programs as an academic option

<p>FYI, for those of you interested in becoming a teacher and attending a LAC. I was surprised at the number of programs available and depth of courses at many of these schools. Also surprised how many of these LACs have Masters programs in teaching or education.</p>

<p>I categorized these into 3 buckets for undergrads...(1) complete programs including major, minor or certifications (aka a pre-professional program) "MAJOR etc" ; (2) minor(s) or certifications only (no major) ; and, (3) no education offerings....from what I could find, quickly, on each school's website. I also noted those schools with a masters program.</p>

<p>Grinnell does off the option of a teaching certification with a 9th semester practicum (a common format, so I understand.)</p>

<p>Davidson offers an education concentration with 2 different tracks, either interdisciplinary (if you don’t want to be a teacher right away) or teachers licensing.</p>

<p>I think that if you dig around the catalogues for these schools listed with “no ed offering,” you will find courses related to teaching. Williams, for example, has a “Program in Teaching.”</p>

<p>It is nice to see how all these outstanding schools are fostering future teachers!</p>

<p>thanks everyone…obviously, I missed some programs in my quick search. Keep 'em coming! I am still amazed at how many good programs there are apparently available.</p>

<p>Loyola Marymount U in LA has a good program too.</p>
