LACs with good Russian/European/East European Studies Programs.

pending my ACT results which I'll take in October, I'm starting to look for colleges that I could visit when I take a trip out east next spring. I'm really interested in studying European specifically eastern European studies and also Russian or Turkish. I'm just wondering what are some LACs that offer either one of these programs? So far.. I have some options that may be reaches...
Amherst, Middlebury, Williams, Bowdoin, Bates.. Anymore?

Then there are the colleges that are closer to home: Hamline, Carleton, and Macalester.

If you go to any college's website and click on "Academics", you'll find a list of departments. Look for "Modern Language" or "Russian" and click the link. That will give you an overview of the course offerings, whether there is a major, and the faculty teaching in that department.

It shouldn't be too tough to assemble a list of LACs that offer a Russian major, which could be easily augmented with Poli Sci and History courses on related topics.

For example, Swarthmore offers a Russian major and they also operate their own study-abroad program in Poland. There are other schools (I think Middlebury is one) that operate study-abroad programs in Russia.

Bard has fantastic programs in Budapest, and their own jointly founded liberal arts college in St. Petersburg.

But are you sure you want a LAC? Aren't these interests generally speaking better served in larger schools like Columbia (or Barnard) or Stanford?

I've been slowly looking into some larger schools and my eyes have caught Boston University, Columbia, and of course, HYP. Those of course are all reaches. I've sent for more information on a handful of LACs and replied to the spam letter than Yale sent me to get more information. I'm sort of new to this whole college thing; so I'm not quite sure about which schools have the GOOD programs in this field. So.. this is my updated list of schools.

HYP
Columbia
Swarthmore
Bard
Boston University
Amherst
Williams
Bodowin
Brandeis
Middlebury

I suppose of course, how I do on my ACT, SAT, and school this year will affect my choices, but assuming I attain a score of equal or greater value on the ACT as I did on my PLAN test; I should be safe score wise. I'm probably over analyzing this whole thing out of proportion, but oh well. It's 5:30AM...... so just ignore this if it makes no sense.

Corey, definitely look into the Universities of Michigan and Chicago. Both are considered superb in Russian and Eastern European Studies.

Columbia, Yale and Harvard are also good, but as you pointed out, those are reaches.

Thanks for those Alexandre; I've been reading the UMichigan page and am slowly falling in love!

You may have already found this site, but in case you didn't:
