Inquiring: List of LACs with great RESEARCH opportunities in biology (molecular, cellular, developmental biology).
I know three: Williams, Swarthmore, Reed. Other ideas?
Thanks

It's a small LAC-like university: University of Rochester. Committed to undergrad teaching, and to undergrad research. Right now, they have more research opportunities for undergrads than they have undergrads.

Wesleyan , Oberlin

I know someone who just graduated from the College of Wooster--she completed a very intense senior project in molecular biology, and now is in a graduate program leadeding to a doctorate. I've heard many good things about Wooster, and it is worth looking into.

Add William & Mary. Its a teaching school that gives undergrads achance to do research with professors. Many can publish as an undergrad which is why W&M students do so well in grad schools admittance.

Wesleyan has a fantastic science program with wonderful research opportunities with small ratio interractions with professors. Wes has been very sucessful in obtaining substantive grant money as compared to its peer institutions. As an lac undergrads are the focus and don't have to compete with grad students.

Dana's Dad

Research opportunities? Try Clark U in Worcester.

Consider Bates; Everyone does a thesis and several get published every year.

Middlebury!!!
Colgate.

Pomona College: http://www.biology.pomona.edu/

Pomona Biology Research Web Site: http://www.biology.pomona.edu/research/overview.shtml

They've had 9 Goldwater Scholars http://www.act.org/goldwater/ over the past three years (two in molecular biology) - Harvard, with over 4X larger student population, had 10.

New $23M Seaver Biology Building. http://www.biology.pomona.edu/facilities/seaverbiology.shtml

Separate concentration in Molecular Biology. http://www.molecular-biology.pomona.edu/

Twenty three different research areas within the biology department to explore. http://www.biology.pomona.edu/research/areas.shtml

Harvey Mudd comes to mind.

I understand Davidson, Haverford and Reed all have strong Biology departments.

Earlham and Grinnell are also LACs strong in biology.

Out of all the Northeastern schools I visited (many including several mentioned above), I was very impressed by Bowdoin's biology department (& sciences in general).

Juanita College.
