Elon is Great in so many ways… One question that you should be asking at all the schools that you are considering is: will you be able to preform on stage and major in an academic area as well? Many of the schools you are looking at (including Elon) are competitive nationally for Musical Theater and Preforming Arts. It can be done but it takes planning.

NYU for certain–the Tisch school is excellent.
And Bryn Mawr is so closely alligned with Haverford–including joint theater productions–that you may well meet more straight guys there (assuming that is behind your dislike of all girls schools) than at some of the other schools mentioned, which have very few guys and large gay populations. You can also go to Haverford and take theater at Bryn Mawr.

Tisch is a BFA by audition program. OP does not want a BFA.

Most (if not all) performing opportunities at Elon also go to the students in the auditioned BFA Musical Theatre and Acting programs.

Indiana University is not a LAC, but a good LA University with an excellent BA Theatre program.

I teach at James Madison University… In VA, JMU and UVA are larger LA Universities with strong BA Theatre programs. College of. William and Mary is a state LAC with strong BA Theatre. Has the feel of many private LACs.

Colby College in ME has strong Theatre too.

Skidmore, Vassar, Williams, Muhlenburg, Sarah Lawrence, Connecticut College all have very strong programs, many with active professional summer theatre companies or summer programs on campus.

In FL Rollins is a good LAC with strong BA Theatre too.

It might help narrow down to think specifically about location, size of school, distance from home, and financial situation.

PS. I would also post on the Theatre forum, and possibly the MT forum as well. While both are a bit more BFA focused, most students look at many types of programs, so kids and parents may have some experience visiting the LAC programs. SoozeVT is a college counselor who donates time checking in here, and I believe she has many clients who are looking for LAC BA Theatre options. I am sure she can weigh in with excellent ideas :)

Good Luck!

skidmore could be a good option- it’s not really near a big city but i know there’s a big focus on theater there- good luck from a fellow theater junkie! :D
