My comment was not intended to be disrespectful in any way, and I apologize for any offense taken. I did not consider it insulting to acknowledge that graduates of the service academies must enter active duty, risking life and limb in war. Their occupation is one of the riskiest possible. The kind of girl who is interested in choosing a husband based on the criteria in this list, such as earning power and monetary generosity, is unlikely to have the sacrificial nature and fortitude to be a military wife. Indeed, I think comments that reduce the search for a marriage partner to a quest for money and financial stability are much more insulting than suggesting that most women would prefer a husband who is likely to stay alive and home in the US.

Got my husband at one of the schools on the list. Unfortunately it hasn’t been quite the financial success I expected, but I did get great looking and really smart kids out of it. ;)

What century are we living in, again? Because I thought we were past all this.

I found my husband at Carleton and he’s awesome. Twenty-nine years and counting. Go Knights! :)

What a silly list. There are colleges where getting married is a big thing, though, like BYU and Wheaton.

I have to note again that no matter how stupid a list is, folks on CC will fight about the placement of colleges on it.

I hope we never get to a point when woman no longer want a smart, handsome and generous man. I want to add loving, hardworking, fiscally responsible, and faithful to list for top guys.

And no CC thread will go on for more than a page or two before someone gets insulted.

An obvious oversight … Occidental College. And the service academies of course!

And where are the land-grant schools, with all that animal husbandry?

Desirable, yes. Moneyed, yes. Chip-On-Shoulder, absolutely. I know a number of guys from a few of these schools and let’s just say (as a father of two daughters, one in college) I would not be looking forward to any Chip-On-Shouldered young guys marrying them.

Maybe it’s just me and my very laid back attitude, but elite schools tend to stroke egos… And ego may be great for career success and all that, but not for marrying my daughters.

Wow. I don’t know why I continue to be surprised by how lacking in humor some cc’ers are.

Amazing that anyone is taking the list - or any omissions - seriously.

The idea that a girl would do all it takes to get into one of these schools to get her MRS is pretty funny.

In reality, if a student really wants to be engaged senior year in college and married shortly after graduation, he or she should go to one of the very strict Christian colleges like Harding, Abiline Christian, Dordt, etc.

My husband and two sons are all graduates of the colleges on the list. I’d have to say it’s pretty accurate!

USNA
USMA
USAFA
USCGA
VMI
The Citadel
Vassar (doh!)

“What century are we living in, again? Because I thought we were past all this.”

Nope.

I thought my alma mater was the best place to get an Mrs. … or so everyone said! :)

Yes, I did. And so did most of my friends. After all, engineers make good husbands (and wives!).

I agree, kelsmom! I met my husband in grad school. We took Prestressed Concrete and Finite Elements together! :)

So romantic, ML! ;)

:D

Seriously, according to various posters on CC, my S should be ashamed that he is merely a student at a “lower Ivy.” Since he belongs to a fraternity, he is by definition a wanna-be rapist, a drunk, and a racist. He is unemployable and doomed to a life of unemployment and penury as a humanities major.

So hearing that he is also a “selfish, cowardly, prolonged adolescent from the Ivies, whose income will have to cover three divorces” is not so bad. At least it suggests that he will have an income.

The list is funny, but not as (unintentionally) funny as some of the responses…what a hoot this thread is.
