Lafayette College vs. Denison for Environmental science

Hi I am a current freshman and CWRU and I am looking to transfer to either Lafayette or Denison for Environmental Science/Geology. Wondering if anyone has any advice or info on the major at the schools or just the schools in general, especially the differences between the two and pros and cons of both schools! Thanks

My D graduated from Lafayette a few years ago and had a fantastic experience. I can’t speak to the Environmental Science/Geology Departments specifically but she did take a number of STEM courses and was happy with them. From what I could tell Lafayette figured out that “sweet spot” where students felt academically challenged yet also had time for socializing, doing research with professors, participating in EC activities, etc.

I have no first hand information on Denison but have heard good things about the school.

Just went to an Admitted Students event at Denison. Everything was first-class. Seems like a beautiful campus in an idyllic small town (I’d like to live there) with small class sizes, nice kids and caring professors. My kid went to a class with current students and thought it was great. I watched a bunch of videos on YouTube about Denison and one of them, “The ABCs of Academics”, featured a geology professor and student. Denison has a large endowment and spends a lot of money on students. Michael Eisner was an alum and donated money for a performing arts center.

I live not far from Lafayette and every year kids from our high school attend. They seem happy. Also has a very pretty campus on a hill. I think Denison has greater geographic and socioeconomic diversity of students, perhaps due to more generous scholarships, but both schools seem like good options. Good luck.
