I was wondering if there is a large pc gaming crowd at Cal Poly and if there is, do people get together for lan parties on a regular basis?

If there isn’t, I’m totally down with starting it.

I’m down as well. Lets get some 1.6 scrims going!

I heard some kids in dorms set up a switch within the dorm and everyone on each floor interconnects to a local intranet for LANs.

That would be awesome. I’m getting the HP Envy 17 as a gaming laptop for college. Lans will be so much less of a hassle with a laptop.

There is a gaming club on campus:
[FRG Computing - Cal Poly San Luis Obispo Club](http://frgcomputing.org/)

They typically do around one event per quarter. last year they rented out the Chumash auditorium in the UU and borrowed a couple of switches from the network lab. Now, if only I had a box up to the task.

Back in the dorms, a ‘lan party’ typically consisted of a bunch of folks on the same floor playing the same game at the same time. These days, I’ve heard you cannot connect outside of a particular lan (in the case of the dorms, they keep it to one lan per switch). Which works out to be one switch, which works out to be around 24 ports. This one time, we had one in common rooms of Sierra Madre. That’s why I still own a 16 port dumb switch.
