Students have a legal right to withhold rent if living conditions are unliveable. There’s obviously a LOT of competition for apartments, so private landlords have a lot of power over a tenant. The managment companies are pretty good but certainly are not thinking too hard about tenants, especially as we’ve seen dozens of new buildings go up. Check with other students and families as you search for housing for next fall.
