Hello everyone. I am a current senior in high school and planning to major in computer science this fall. I was wondering if anyone can help me choose a laptop that is good for both computer science and gaming. My budget would be about $600-700. I am pretty new to laptops and what they require. All i know is that for computer science I need at least 6 GB of RAM and for gaming I would need a discrete graphics card. Can anyone recommend any laptops or options for me?

If you’re looking for gaming laptop, it’s pretty much either pay big or go home. IMO a much better option would be a desktop for your dorm room and a cheap laptop for word processing and stuff. A lot of colleges have computer labs for computer science, so chances are you won’t need it for actual computer science stuff except for special circumstances. What are some games you would like to play?

I just feel like a desktop would be too expensive for me.

Games like Battlefield 4, Elder Scrolls Online, Project Spark, Titanfall, etc.

A laptop that plays games like battlefield 4 (with decent graphics) would be way more expensive. It is probably best to consult a tech forum for a question like this. Ill point you to tomshardware.com they know their stuff over there.

Thank you very much :)

No problem! I hope you find what you’re looking for!
