Hi all,
I was wondering if anyone had any recommendations for a laptop at Penn State University Park. I’m currently in the college of the Liberal Arts (undecided). As far as my major goes, I imagine it will be either english, history, or political science. I could also see myself pursuing a minor in business. Any recommendations as to what laptop I should buy?
Thanks!
Ok so this unanswered question drove my daughter nuts before she attended college- she asked everyone at every university-and they all suggested “whatever is your personal preference “. She was a computer engineer major and really wanted to be prepared. She decided to bring her crappy laptop to get her through until she knew what to buy (and put the $ in the bank to spend when she knew what to buy) - two years later and she is still using her crappy laptop. She will probably buy her laptop within the next year because she would like to utilize all the free software you get as a Penn State student. So her recommendation: keep the money in case you laptop breaks and use what you have.
Thanks for the response! I actually do not yet have a laptop at all, I have been using my iPad to type papers and such.
I’m gonna have to go and recommend the Lenovo Thinkpad. There’s a bunch of guides for selecting good models out there, like their subreddit wiki and such. It’s a reliable, high quality laptop. I’d go for the T480 (and similar) and older generations though. The newest (T490) is kind of a downgrade
Make sure the laptop you purchase will allow you to use memory sticks (and make sure you buy and use them this way you will always have a backup of your work). also Penn State (as well as many of other colleges ) sell used laptops this may help you get a better option for a lower price.
Thank you both for your responses!
