Hello. I will be a freshman at UNC next fall. I have not yet received any information about if or if not I am eligible for a laptop grant from CCI. I emailed the university to ask about this and they said that they cannot calculate if I am eligible for the grant without the IRS Tax Transcript via the Data Retrieval Tool on the FAFSA. However my mother just sent her taxes into the IRS on the 15th (April) and the IRS website says that tax returns that are mailed will take 8-11 weeks to process. That's over 2 months and that just seems like a crazy amount of time to wait to know if I am eligible for the grant. The university says that we should order the laptop by May 15th, but that doesn't seem like it is possible for me. What's even more confusing is that my girlfriend has not yet turned in her IRS Tax transcript, but she has already been notified that she is eligible for the grant. I am wondering why she was able to know and I wasn't. I called the school a few days ago and they said that based on my FAFSA information I don't seem to be eligible, but that we can only know for sure once the Tax Transcript is in. But that doesn't make sense to me because my EFC is around 2000 dollars. Also the CCI website said that many students, even those receiving no other financial aid, will receive a laptop grant. I DID receive aid, so wouldn't that be a good indicator of my eligibility?

Anyway, I was just wondering if anyone could help me. I will be emailing this to the university too and I will post what their response is.
