Portable... Need to carry it around UCI >.>

Oh and what about the new windows 8? Should i wait for it to buy a laptop?

Gaming laptops aren’t very portable, and if you’re going to college you’ll be carrying it and the charger around with you all the time so it will take a lot of wear and tear.

If you want gaming laptops go to xoticpc.com, they have better deals than Newegg but be sure to check both. If you want an Asus laptop get the G55, its better and cheaper than the G53/G73 unless it is refurbished. Otherwise go to Xotic PC and check out the Sager NP6165, it is only 6.17 pounds, has decent specs and costs less than $900. You can try out Windows 8 Release Preview for free, but you might not like it so you should stick with Windows 7 for now.

I think that depends on who “gaming” you want to get. There are very portable and some incoming ultrabooks that have IB I7s and dedicated GPUs strong enough to play most games at a respectable frame rate, along with getting bearable battery life. These tend to be in the 14" ranges. The only obvious comparable downside is that they will most likely not come with an optical drive (in case you need to use the game’s disk), so you will also need to but an accompanying external optical drive with them.

A strict “only/mainly-for-gaming” machine will most likely not be as portable as those.

The ones described like above that have been mentioned before on these threads are the Acer Timeline X, Lenovo U410 or Y470p, Dell XPS 14 Ultrabook, and a few others that don’t pop out of the top of my head. And with a $1,600 budget that should be enough to get any of those models at the higher trims (i7, NVidia/AMD or at least Intel HD 4000 GPUs, high storage HDD or mid-storage SSDs etc).

Going to second xoticpc and their Sager offerings. The Sager NP6165 mentioned is a good balance. You can get much better specs for the same price vs Alienware here.

If you were only going to play League, then a less expensive laptop could be had, but Aion requires stronger stuff.

Crap. I’m stuck between Asus and Lenovo at the moment. Lenovo IdeaPad Y580 Laptop that is. There’s so many brands to choose from >.>

Also should I wait for any upcoming software like windows 8 to buy a laptop?

If you plan on instantly updating up to Windows 8, then yes. Windows 7 support will be around for quite a while.

^I think you get a Windows 8 upgrade for $15 if you buy a Windows 7 PC between now and release.

They’re following Apple’s business patterns, I guess. I also thought that retail W8 would be released on July 26 (today), since I haven’t been paying attention to tech news due to work, but apparently I’m pretty much 3 months off with speculated release on October 26. However, OEM release for W8 will happen in the first week August, so I feel like it’s worth it to wait. Might as well save $15 just by waiting an extra week.
