Laptop recommendations for Pre-vet student (biology major)

Hello! I’m a high school senior currently and I’m looking at getting my college laptop a little early for the fall 2017 school year. I plan to be a Biology major in a Pre-Veterinary Medicine program which means I have at least 8 years of schooling; therefore, I need a laptop that is going to last. I really want something that is going to be fast, lightweight, and have a decent battery life.

So far I have been looking at a Macs but they are just a little pricey and I’m not sure if it’s worth it. I have just heard such good things about how long a Mac lasts. One thing I really like about the Mac is the fact that I have all apple products and the school I’m looking at going to has mostly apple products. As of right now I’m open to suggestions.

Also i don’t have a home computer so I need to get something that I can fill out college applications on. That is why plan to get a college laptop early. If I get one now do you think I will miss out on the new versions come spring 2017?
Thank you!!

Don’t worry about waiting for the next version of things; there’s always something new just around the corner. In fact, with a lot of brands of computers, you can get a great deal on the outgoing product line as they announce the shiny new version.

Macs are undeniably pricey. Part of what you’re paying for is build quality; they’re often built with better materials than very cheap low-end computers. That said, for a biology major pretty much any computer around the $350 mark will probably meet your needs. Heck, you might even consider a Chromebook; they’re cheap, highly portable, and some of them have fantastic battery life.
