I just paid my admissions deposit, i really want to get my laptop, why not have it for the summer if im going to get one for college anyways.
JMU - Departmental Recommendations for incoming students

I looked through that, and it shows the computers that i should get for my major(biology)

I guess my question is, is this guide 100% ok. Like if i went out and bought one of the listed computers without talking to my admissions counselor or someone at JMU would i be good with that?

I would talk to a counselor because you may need particular programs that would work better with so much ram, etc.

But, I am and always will be a fan of Apple.

Depends how much money you have to spend. Apple has and always will be horrendously overpriced for the hardware you get (3-4x as expensive for comparable specs) but for that you have a bit more stability if you have no idea how to tweak a PC.

Look for something with 2-4 gigs of ram, decent processor 2.1 dual core, discrete graphics. That should run anything you could ever possible want.
