Hi, I am going to major in Biochemistry, what laptop should I buy? If not a specific one, what specs should I look for?
Any laptop would be fine honestly as long as you’re not in Engineering. I would suggest getting an apple laptop tho for the portability, battery life and all that good stuff.

Do students generally bring their laptops with them to lecture for taking notes? Just curious.
^ Depends on the class. Some do in humanities/social science classes where it’s easy to type the notes. People usually use pen(cil) and paper for STEM notes.
Pretty much any laptop made within the past few years will work for any major. Yes, that includes engineering. Engineering and CS class in particular often use specific software for a given class, but even if for some reason your laptop can’t run it, there are computer labs you can go to that have the software already installed. My laptop is 4 years old now and I’ve had no issues with the software needed for any of my classes.
As far as models: Be careful with Lenovos. I’ve known a few people that had issues with hinges breaking within a quarter or two. My current laptop is a Toshiba that runs beautifully (barring the hiccups from being a few years old), and I’ve never had issues with other models from them. Asus laptops seem to do well too, but I’ve never personally used them.
Honestly, a Mac is completely unnecessary. If you happen to have the money for one and really like them, then by all means go for it. But if you don’t, don’t bother.
Literally any laptop will be fine. Macs or PCs or Chromebooks or any linux book. I’ve used them all for various classes, and I’m engineering.
