last possible test date

hi, i'm currently a junior and have already taken biom, and I am planning on taking ushist, chem and bioE. but i would also like to retake the sat1 too. i want to know if i can the test next year and still apply on time. not planning on any ED's.

Yes, you can take the SAT next year. There are October, November, December, and, in a bit of a pinch, January test dates next fall/winter. I would recommend that you finish before the January test date, because not EVERY (most, but not all) school will accept the January test date, and it is less pressure and less worry to be finished before this testing date. Any of the others are fine, though--they will all get there in plenty of time. I know you said no ED, but just to finish out my advice--if you do file EA/ED applications, November is the last testing date.

Also, just in general, while one certainly may use the last testing date applicable (November or January) and there isn't any real harm in it (I took one last SAT II in November and I had an EA application), I would strongly, strongly, strongly urge any future testers NOT to wait until the last testing date to complete your required testing. It will be a ton of extra stress on you, because you will feel behind, even if your college accepts that testing date, and you will just have to send whatever scores you get--no retakes, no I was deathly ill on the testing date, no nothing. People HAVE overslept, been crazy sick, had a terrible proctor, gotten lost and missed their testing date, etc. plenty of times before--you are running a big risk with stuff like this if you wait until the last testing date to fulfill your requirements. You won't be able to cry to the colleges, either--there are 7 testing dates a year, last time (just now!) that I checked, and if you wait until the last one and something happens that makes your scores terrible/causes you to miss the test, you will not be getting a lot of sympathy.

Sorry for the rant...it's for your, the future test taker's, own good, though!

Are you thinking of UC? The final "last test possible" dates for UC is sooner because their RD deadline is sooner than everywhere else (Nov). For them, don't plan on anything later than Dec.

Also, some colleges have something called "Rush Scores" but NOT ALL WILL ACCEPT THAT SYSTEM. If you're looking at this post now in Spring, you should absolutely frame "advantagious" word-to-the-wise above and follow that advice! To that wisdom, I'd also add: there are winter power failures around the country that messed people up in 2006-07, espec if they waited til last minute...
