I found out yesterday that I got rejected from UofMD, which I’m fine with. The thing is that I submitted all my materials within the deadline and didn’t receive my decision notification last Friday. I called then emailed admissions earlier this week to explain my case and on Wednesday I got a response saying I’ll get one in 7 to 10 business days since I also applied to a LEP. However, I received my decision notification only two days later. I’m fine with not getting in but why would it be so fast? I’m very confused.
Chances are they reviewed your application more closely since you applied to an LEP and you might have been right on the border. There’s also a chance they made an error somewhere, so it might be worth appealing in this case, since you said you were confused. Best of luck if you decide to appeal.
Just to clarify the application process…all
Applications are looked at first for consideration of admission to the university itself, regardless of major, and without consideration of applying to a LEP (they don’t review “more closely” if you apply to a LEP). If the university decides to offer admission, that application is then forwarded to the LEP for a second, independent review by that department - And they look for different things than the university itself does. So, if you are not admitted to the university, the LEP has not seen your application and thus has no weight/impact on the initial application review by the university.
As for timing, who knows? However, I know that when I am overwhelmed at work by individual requests, I often say it will take longer than I expect to need just to give myself a cushion of time in case I need it…
