Will a late recommendation affect an applicant? I've read that some colleges don't blame the student, but I've heard that others look down on applicants that don't have everything in on time.

One of my recs submitted his report on the Common App website on the 15th (the deadline), but it did not show up as received or even entered until earlier today. I thought maybe he missed a button or something, but my counselor said she's had it on file since the deadline.

Should I email a representative about this? Grinnell is my dream school but quite a reach; I don't want to ruin my already slim chances.

Our experience was the admission folks were very helpful. My d had a minor panic attack because her app was due Jan 1 for ED2 and the post office was closed and wouldn’t postmark Jan 1. She called admissions and they assured her it would be fine. No sense worrying about something if you can get an answer by going to the source - there are plenty of things to worry about!

I got an email earlier today from Grinnell saying they’ve received everything and are ready to evaluate my application. That and your answer made me feel better about the situation. I’ve decided that I won’t email them about the late rec, but I might bring it up when I go visit campus in February. Thank you for answering :)

Put it out of your mind and in February spend your time talking to students, profs, staff and taking in the Grinnell “bubble”. Good luck to you!
