Late Writing Supplement

I recently had surgery and as a result wasn’t able to finish the Cornell Supplement on time. I submitted my common app a few days ago, had my transcripts and scores sent in ages ago, and paid the fee. Do you think if I email them and explain the circumstances that they will give me a day or two’s grace, or should I just give it up?

Just call them on Jan 5 and see what they say.

I’m sure they’ll allow you to submit, but it doesn’t look good on your part. Regardless of the surgery (I hope you have a healthy recovery btw), you chose to wait for the last minute, knowing an unforseen circumstance could arise. They’ll most likely review your app, but you’re probably starting on a bad note

@jamesjunkers if I have very high tests, gpa, lots of extracurriculars, leadership, volunteer service, and demonstrate intellectual curiosity and passion in my essay do you think it will make that much of a difference

@pdoyle97: I’m sure it’ll be okay. I’m not saying you’re getting rejected because you submitted late. I’m just saying that if there are two students, you and someone else, with virtually the same strength in all of those fields, who would you accept, the one who submitted everything on time, or the one who who submitted late?

I remember being at a Cornell info session, when they said (this was for ED), “Don’t be the one emailing us on November 2nd asking for an extension”

But again, for all I know, the adcom reading your app may not even notice. You’ll be okay

@jamesjunkers they extended it for me and said there are no penalties.
