latina/hispanic, took SAT II spanish, blah blah BUT THERE'S A TWIST.

I've read (what seems like) hundreds of posts about whether taking a subject test in your native language is viewed negatively by adcom, but none have reached a consensus. what's the real deal on that?

... and the aforementioned twist is that I am latina from Brazil, so my second language is Portuguese, not Spanish. while it's undeniable that I have an advantage over non-latinos, does anybody know how that'd be seen by an adcom? I have yet to encounter another brazilian on the CC forums so I'm pretty clueless about this!

explain that then

Out of curiousity, if you knew that that might be an issue, why did you take it then? But yeah, just add it in your application somewhere.

It certainly won’t hurt your application; it just won’t help as much as another foreign language might have.

@Mare_Crisium: because I knew I could score high on it.

thanks for the replies, other people.

I understand that but its still kind of weird. I’ve known students who came over from Korea to study in the U.S. and I haven’t see them take the korean SAT to prove they properly know the language. No offense to you, (sorry if you took any) but it just seems rather pointless, depending on what school your applying to.
