LaunchX/MIT Launch 2019 Megathread

@stanroze hi stan! what would you say was the best part of the program? and i dont want to be that person who’s all about college, but im curious to whether you think launchx helped/helps your chances to admissions to a top school

Has any RA applicant received an interview request yet?

yes I have

I received an interview request today (!), but I was deferred from early action and am now in the RA group. Fingers are crossed for a great interview.

Interview is super important. Make sure you’re ready for the wackiest questions! I got asked about my favorite color last year. Another weird question I had was like a scenario thing and what would I do with certain items.

@GoBears2023 that sounds pretty crazy! Who interviewed you

has anyone who applied regular decision gotten an interview request yet and does anyone know when they will start sending them out?

@AustralianNoCap

I was interviewed by one of their alumni. It was pretty fun! PM me if you want a more detailed recap of what was asked :smiley:

Just wanted to let u guys know that I had my interview on Thursday, March 8, and just got my acceptance letter today for RD!

Congrats @shanghailover

If you don’t mind, can you post your stats and ECs so future applicants can gauge where they are?

@shanghailover That is awesome…and the admittance came so quick! Congrats to you! Which location?

@GoBears2023 @FLBeaches123 So for applicants who are wondering, I was just admitted to launch x Session 1 at MIT. I hope this helps everyone :))

Here is some of my stats, EC’s and other parts of my application.

Grade: Freshman
Unweighted GPA: 3.86
Weighted GPA: N/A school does not use weighted GPA
PSAT: 1400
Class Rank: Top 5%
ECs:
I started 2 business, one non-profit organization that pairs fast food restaurants with local organizations to donate unsold food. The organization has expanded to 12 locations across the US. My second business is a girl golf clothing company that I created to help increase the interest of young girls in the sport of golf. I think these two startups were the main thing that helped my application.
FTC Robotics- Team captain
Golf- Takes up most of my time. I talked about what it has taught me about life and how I can apply that to being an entrepreneur.

video-
I think my video was pretty good. I mainly just talked ab my businesses and why I want to be an entrepreneur. Here is the link if you want to see the actual video https://youtu.be/ReQvM6oWn1I

Essays-
I think my essays were pretty good id say probably a 7/10

Teacher recs- I had my biology teacher give me a recommendation. I’m really close with her and she has helped me with a lot of my business stuff so I think she gave me a pretty good rec letter, 9/10

Interview- I was SUPER nervous so I talked really fast and rambled a lot, but overall I didn’t think my interview was AMAZING, but I think I did okay. I had Peri as my interviewer. If u have any questions ab what she asked u can pm me!

Demographics
Nationality: Russian and Arabic but I have a US passport
Residence: Shanghai, China. I am an expat living in Shanghai, China. I attend an international school. A couple of kids applied to launch from my school as well but idk if they got in or not.

@shanghailover

Wow, thanks for putting such a detailed post. Future applicants will definitely benefit from it!

I was surprised when I saw that you were not asian in your video. It’s pretty cool that you are living in Shanghai! Congrats once again on such a fine accomplishment!

Thanks so much, @shanghailover, for your informative posts! They didn’t go wrong admitting you. I think you would make an excellent interviewer as a LaunchX alumn!
