LaunchX Summer 2020

Hi all,

I know that most are getting decisions and interviewed, however I (not a good idea) decided to apply last minute seeing that applications were still open. I have a few questions. How should I describe my extracurriculars? Are they extremely picky about factors such as GPA?

Hey @hereiamwhee , I just had my interview today. It’s really straightforward actually and it felt like just a normal conversation. As for preparation I would say write down a few questions you would like to ask because they give you 5 minutes at the end for questions ?.

Also @frsh for your application I recommend being short and concise while describing your extracurriculars, and I’m pretty sure they don’t give GPA too much weight. Good luck!

Thank you!

Quick question about the Skype etiquette–do I call them first or do I wait for them to call me? I just don’t want to bother them if the interview before me is running late or something.

Mine gave me a 10 minutes heads up and they called me.

Just a question about the program. Do most people fly in by themselves, and then take an uber or something to their campus, or are parents required for check-in/checkout?

Thanks for the response, but I am faced with another problem.

My mom is micromanaging my application and wanted to write the answers for me. She isn’t allowing me to write anything and wants to do it herself, under the bias that she can get me in. For context, I had gotten rejected by a program at Stanford, and my mom believes that it was my writing that had gotten me rejected. While this might be true, I don’t like the idea of my mom stepping in and changing things in what was meant to be my venture. To make matters worse, she is intent on finishing the application today. How do I convince her to let me do my own thing?

I am posting again hoping someone will respond. Launch X is asking for a pretty big nonrefundable deposit of $3000 in a short window after acceptances. Has anyone gotten any details about the Cambridge program, including where it will be held and what college or university facilities it will have access to? There is no name of a person anywhere on the web page and they haven’t been very responsive to emails. I am starting to be concerned about what is going on and was wondering if anyone knew who was running the show this summer? I know they have had some transitions and want to be sure they are solid for this summer. Thanks.

I think I read somewhere that it was going to be at Harvard, but not affiliated with Harvard. Not sure how accurate that information is though.

Does our ranking of the locations matter in regards to admissions? I’m just wondering if I rank the less-common ones higher than will I have a larger chance of admission? Or is it just the same overall?

Hey guys!

I checked my portal and it says I can “START” my application, despite my submission in January. Is anyone else having this issue? Let me know.

Yeah, I have got exactly the same problem ! I emailed them and they are considerate enough to move me directly to another session. You need to make sure that you indicated the last day of your school semester correctly in your app. They basically assign locations according to this piece of info.

Anyone scared of the coronavirus? ? They sent a email about it today.

Even if i receive financial aid do i need to deposit $ 3000.00?

Anyone received an email saying that someone sent you a package from LaunchX after acceptance?

@crazylaptop no you don’t. it depends on the amount of aid you receive I just paid everything in one go. they should send you an invoice about how much you owe

vvanli me!! Im going to upenn

@kulchytska

you can try. I tried too but they didn’t transfer me at all. which is super unfair considering that NOW they are sending location preferences. smh, paying nearly the cost of a used car for this camp and they can’t even accommodate schedules…

Where do I submit the income tax return for finacial aid?

Does anyone know where we find acceptance/rejection on the portal?

for me, it was just a letter that I saw right as I logged in. it was right on top of my actual app I sent
