Laundry at Colby

I’ve heard of Colby’s Laundry service where they wash/fold your clothes for you, but it’s SO EXPENSIVE! Is it worth it? If I do my laundry on my own, how much does it cost?

There’re some students who elect to purchase that service, but most don’t. Each residence hall has its own laundry room and after the first couple weeks or so people spread out their laundry days (so not everyone does it Sunday night). It’s $3.10 for washing + drying ($1.55 each).

To add on to what ILackKnowledge said, if you’re in a Hillside dorm (Taylor, Sturtevant, Marriner, Leonard, Williams) there is a laundry room on each floor (which is super nice-- no hauling laundry up or down stairs).

Also, there is an YourColby app that includes LaundryView, so you can see what machines are free, when your laundry will be done, etc. It even gives you stats on when the busiest times are, so you can plan your washing accordingly.

The one downside to doing your own laundry is the machines are a bit fussy and don’t always get your clothes completely clean. How to avoid this:

  1. Only fill the machine 2/3 full
  2. Use extra-strength (like “sport” level) detergent
  3. Get some kickass dryer sheets

Bring a drying rack just in case you overfilled the dryer or it didn’t want to dry six pairs of jeans at once-- a drying rack will save you lots of money!

So basically the laundry service is ridiculously expensive and most people just do their own. It’s a bit of pain and can be fussy, but what do you expect when sixty kids are using the same three washers and dryers. XD

Thanks! This helped alot.
