Son had to fill out the Need Access forms for medical schools’ financial aid in addition to the FAFSA and some schools also had additional forms. As far as age there was NO cutoff point if unmarried. Seriously.

If the student wanted to be considered for institutional aid (for med school), most, not all needed parental info.

Ebeeeeee, congrats on scholarship and admission for S.

Years ago, I got a JD/MBA, and although I received some scholarships/fellowships, and borrowed money, work during the school year and summers was part of the plan. If he is a paralegal at the type of law firm that has evening and weekend shifts, I might suggest keeping a part time relationship there. I do not think 8-10 hours a week of work would be hazardous to GPA. I do not know what paralegals currently make, but I would think that he could cover at least a good portion of his living expenses this way. My third year, I worked more than that if I could get the hours. I found second year very challenging time wise due to law review, but I worked anyway. I was near the top of the class, and on law review, despite the work schedule. I did not end up picking the school with the absolute best financial offer, but that was because of the opportunity to get a JD/MBA in four years. It was a great program for me.

Good luck.

I was the Graduate Assistant to the Dean of Students at the undergrad school in law school. I worked as many hours a week as I wanted but I worked at least a few hours every day because I was in charge of certain projects. It was a full time job in the summer so I had to keep it during the year too. The only drawback was that I couldn’t clerk at a law firm during the summers. It ended up not hurting me because the job market was so much better then. I was older when I went back to law school so I was very disciplined and could handle a job and still graduate near the top of the class. I don’t think a lot of my classmates could have done that, particularly during the first year.
