Law School for Animal Law

Hey everyone,

So I know Animal Law is definitely a small field right now, but it's the area I'd ideally like to get into. Unfortunately, not many schools offer programs in this. Lewis and Clark College hosts the most in-depth animal law program but is really low ranked (80th I think). George Washington also offers an animal law program and is much higher ranked at 21 (I think), but is way more expensive in terms of law school costs and cost of living. I'd really like to end up practicing in the Pacific Northwest, so GW Law would mostly be a temporary thing in an ideal world.

For what I want to do, does ranking matter as much? Should I suck it up financially and go for GW? Or forget all of this and find the best school I can get into regardless of the focus area?

First, what are your GPA/LSAT? Second, when you say animal law, what precisely do you mean? Do you mean working for the humane society, doing work with environmental groups dealing with endangered species, personal injury involving animals, or what? To the extent animal exists, it is an extremely small field. I have a friend at a T14 with extensive background struggling to find anything in animal law. You should first identify what form of animal law interests you, then go look up people who do it. Look at the stats of their new hires. What schools, honors, and backgrounds did they have?
