I'm trying to decide between these 2. I want to study Astronomy; Lawrence has a great physics program, but it looks like no real courses in Astronomy other than 1 intro and a topics course. I think both have great music programs for non majors - I can take lessons at Eastman at U of Rochester and the Conservatory at Lawrence.
Anyone with an opinion on one school versus the other with regard to their Physics/Astronomy programs? I liked Lawrence when I visited the school, I'm just concerned about not being able to have a more concentrated major than physics.

Best thing to do is to write to the department (email) and get some feedback from them. With tutorials, their program may be somewhat flexible to your individual needs.

I'm not a physics major (although I considered it as a prospie), but I'll see if I can give you a little information to help you decide.

First of all, Lawrence's physics department, as you mentioned, is great. I'm not a physics major (I haven't even taken any physics classes here), but I've talked to some of the professors and I know quite a few students in the program. Every student I've talked to seems to enjoy the program and is also very dedicated to physics. There are a lot of really intelligent students in the physics program.

As for astronomy, I would agree that there is not a huge emphasis in the course offerings. However, at Lawrence you'd be able to work one on one with professors in whatever branch of physics you want to study.

Both schools have great music programs and I don't think you can go wrong either way. The main difference I see is that U of R is going to have a wider selection of courses and Lawrence is going to have a lot individual attention.
