Well guys, guess it’s this time of the year again. LBW '18er here. After abandoning CC for a good few months I’m back to look through the UPenn ED thread and remembered a year ago when I was desperately browsing CC for LBW info lol, so here I am. If you have any questions about LBW, the application process, the program itself, etc. just reply and I’ll answer them the best I can. Best of luck to all of you!! Don’t stress too much. Before receiving my acceptance email I was 100% expecting a L but I still got in haha~! So you never know what happens!
Hi Yaoqian, thanks for starting this thread, I just have a quick question regarding the admissions process: how big of a factor are test scores? I’m an international coming from a relatively non competitive high school and have taken no standardized tests. Feeling quite overwhelmed by all the qualified applicants with 1550s and 35+
@yaoqian appreciate your offer to help. I’m working on the essays and still tryna figure out what to write for relationship essay. What did you talk about? Thanks
@yhchen , sorry for replying so late, I have not checked CC recently. I personally know people who got into LBW with really low standardized testing scores, and I’m sure there’s people who get in who didn’t choose to submit their test scores. I wouldn’t worry too much about it, as long as the rest of your application shines!
@svbanker the relationship essay was the essay that I struggled with too lol, because I didn’t want to sound generic and boring. I tried writing things I thought was “unique” but they all come out questionable. I would say just write what is truly the most important relationship, it can definitely be something unique, but don’t force it to be. I ended up writing about my relationship with my dad and how he likes to quiz me, which I felt thousands of people would write about, but it ended up working so there you go
@yaoqian Thanks for starting the thread! For Why LBW, I can think of a bunch of things that aren’t unique but just expected stuff … Was there any part of your LBW experience you thought was special or different from what you expected?
For the word limits for extracurriculars, it says 1-2 paragraphs. That’s really vague (massive paragraphs) Did you stick to this?
Also, did you apply Wharton ED?
Thanks in advance
@BobsaidYo I think the most unique experience was the pitch competition. Basically on top of taking lectures, at the start of the program we were randomly grouped into 10-people groups and charged with the task of coming up with a startup idea, then ultimately pitching it in a competition against all of the groups from LBW in front of a panel of judges who are real investors and CEOs and such. This is the “big project” that is weaved into the program. It gives you great insight on the entrepreneurship process, and you become really close with your group members. Full transparency I didn’t have many business experience or related ECs before LBW so that was special for me. If this doesn’t really help you I can try to think of something else lol
For some reason I don’t remember writing 1-2 paragraph about extracurriculars? For us we had space for 3 ECs and we had to write descriptions for each of them, are you referring to this? I definitely didn’t write full-out essays, it was more like 100-200 words each.
Also, I didn’t apply Wharton ED. After LBW I definitely still had a passion for business but decided I’ll wait until graduate school, perhaps MBA.
@yaoqian Thanks so much. That sounds amazing, and it must have been really rewarding!
For the app this year it’s still 3 ECs but 1-2 paragraphs. I’ll keep each within 200 words.
If you don’t want to do MBA immediately, you can always consider an EMBA, and Wharton has a great EMBA program!
Best of luck with your college apps if you haven’t finished already! Thanks again!!!
Hey guys!
Could you guys post the essays? I’m not 100% sure if I want to apply and go through the trouble of asking for recommendations you know? I know its a bit of a hassle but I would greatly appreciate it!
Also, if anyone is applying to LEAD, could you post the essays?
Can anyone here possibly chance me for this, I can pm you my stats.
@bigboi312 as in the essay prompts? Last year it was two essays, one describe the most important relationship in your life, one why LBW (the second one is “optional”) and I think this year it’s the same
@yaoqian actually this year due to the fact that most applicants postponed uploading the required things, the relationship essay was cancelled.
@yaoqian Congratulations on your LBW experience! Btw, Where did you apply early? And were you accepted? I cannot wait until the LBW results, I have already sent the application …quite anxious(
Thank you! Does anyone know the official LBW essay prompts for 2019? I would be eternally grateful
@bigboi312 “Why Do You Want to Attend LBW?” is the only essay section and its optional. there are required SAQs like “describe a significant business challenge in 75 words” and “describe the place you call home in 250 words”. Hope this helps
@aiko77 I thought it was because they had so many applicants the AO wouldn’t have time to review them…
@Dev5 hmm that might be the case, btw if you want I can try to chance you.
I already sent my application but I struggled with the short question. The one about the modern problems in business
I wrote about communication skills. You?
i wrote about competition from AI and slowing bull market affecting business model expansion
