<p>I applied to a college where my legal guardian attended. I don’t know if that counts as legacy or not. </p>
<p>A friend of mine was waitlisted at Amherst College (his father’s alma mater) and the father offered a lot of money to the school (called the Dean directly) and the kid still didn’t get in. His grades were not that bad but neither legacy nor money seemed to help him.</p>
