Legacy impact - why?

In looking through the forum, I am surprised at how many ~3.5 GPA, 1900-2000 SAT BC LEGACY students were admitted EA…they even sound surprised. I thought the EA process was more selective…yet it sounds like being a Legacy is more important than accomplishments (for some), and these students are getting admitted ahead of folks with better records who were deferred. Is this the reality at BC?

Be weary of looking at other people’s stats on the internet, particularly for GPA’s. Different schools have different grading policies and varying degrees of grade inflation. For example, at my high school (an above average public school), many of the students admitted don’t have very high unweighted GPA’s (but they have also taken rigorous course loads).
